Of the 16 games in the God Of War franchise, only six are considered to be part of the main series; God Of War (2005), God Of War II, God Of War III, God Of War Ascension, God Of War (2018), and God Of War Ragnarok. While the majority of the main titles follow each other sequentially, God Of War Ascension is a prequel and takes place before the events of the original game.

At the time of writing, only three games are playable on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles; God Of War III Remastered, God Of War (2018), and God Of War Ragnarok, which is releasing in November 2022 for PS4 and PS5.

It’s important to note that not all of these games are playable today unless you own a past-gen console or can emulate the games. At the time of writing, the only God Of War game available on PS Plus is 2018’s God Of War.

Luckily, you don’t need to play all previous games to enjoy God Of War (2018) or God Of War Ragnarok as it’s a soft reboot. While you’ll get a whole lot more context and may enjoy the newer games, they’re excellent experiences as they are.
