Devolver Digital and Monkey Island co-creator Ron Gilbert today shocked fans by announcing a new instalment in the Monkey Island franchise.

Titled Return To Monkey Island, the new game picks up where Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge left off, and the game is spearheaded by Ron Gilbert with developers Terrible Toybox and Lucasfilm Games. What’s more, Dominic Armato – the voice of Guybrush Threepwood, the protagonist of the original games – is returning too.

Alongside announcing the game in a tweet, Devolver Digital shared a short teaser poking fun at Gilbert’s refusal to do another Monkey Island game and revealing a supposed 2022 release date, although no official date was shared.

No other details are available on the Return To Monkey Island website, so it looks like we’re going to have some waiting to do until then. Don’t forget to check back for all the latest!
