How To Get More Gear Slots In Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is a big game with lots to explore both inside and outside Hogwarts Castle. If you’ve been exploring and found some new gear on your travels but were greeted with the frustrating ‘Your Gear Slots Are Full’ message, you’re probably wondering how to get more gear slots.
The only way to upgrade your inventory and get more gear slots is by completing Merlin Trials, which unlock after you’ve completed a few main story missions. Find out more about gear slots in Hogwarts Legacy and how to get more of them in our guide right here.
Hogwarts Legacy Gear Slots
When you first start Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll have a maximum of 20 gear slots, which means you can only carry 20 items of clothing at any time. If you find additional gear with full gear slots, you won’t be able to grab the item and will need to return to it once you’ve freed up some space.
One way of freeing up gear slots in the game is by destroying the gear or selling it to vendors in Hogsmeade or other locations for Galleons. If you like keeping hold of your gear or want to carry more, your only option will be to upgrade your inventory.
How To Expand Your Gear Slots
You can only get more gear slots by completing Merlin Trials, which are unlocked with the mandatory Trials Of Merlin main mission. To complete Merlin Trials, you’ll need to use Mallowsweet Leaves – growable or purchasable from Hogsmeade – on the swirling altar and solve the corresponding challenge.
After completing a Merlin Trial, you won’t automatically acquire new gear slots. Instead, four new gear slots are awarded once you hit milestones and complete two, six, ten, 14, and 18 Trials, allowing you to upgrade your gear to a maximum of 40 slots.
When you hit each milestone, you’ll need to head to the Challenges section of your Field Guide, then the Exploration tab, and claim the gear slots for each milestone.
There are a total of 95 Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy. You don’t need to complete all of them as only 52 are required for the maximum number of gear slots, but doing so will grant you the Merlin’s Beard trophy/achievement.
